Thursday, October 8, 2009FROM MOLARS TO MARKETING!by Sherie SmithThe Fundraising Designer 3 Hours To Fundraising Success Group This post will be a little different than usual, but I've had an interesting day. It all started with my breaking a molar late yesterday. Now when I say break...I don't mean chipped. That lifesaver I was chomping down on so vehemently decided to whack off about half of my tooth. So I left a message for my dentist to hear when he arrived in the office this morning. Problem is...my dentist is out of town until next week. His office gal called to see if I was in pain and if my broken tooth was cutting my cheek or tongue. They were very caring and helpful as I would expect, knowing them as I do. I was told to come in about 10 and they'd put in a temporary filling until my dentist can see me next week. They were wonderful, as always, and about 10:30 I had a smooth temporary filling on the upper right molar to solve the pain and sharp edges problem until Dr. Jimmy gets back in town. Then the gals realized it had been years since they did a new set of xrays on me, plus I was behind schedule for a 'fang' cleaning! I was told to come back at 1:30 to take care of both of those issues, since they had a cancellation. (Just my luck!) Now I had never seen this particular dental hygenist before so I had no idea what to expect. But it was an extremely interesting (and pain free, I might add) 45 minutes. I came away from the dental office with a new respect for dental hygenists. Certainly because of what they do and how well they do it, but also because of everyone they know! I swear this lady knows every soul in town. The conversation of children, where my daughter works and who owns the company where she works naturally led us to a discussion on politics. You see, the man who owns the company where my daughter works is currently running for public office. Now the opposing candidate has decided to take the low road, and his political party has resorted to running a smear campaign in hopes of getting him elected. Anyway, the dental hygenist and I talked a little politics. Well, I mumbled politics while she was doing her ultrasonic thing in my mouth and carrying on the greater part of the conversation. During the course of that little chat, I learned that she is a local gal and I heard the family histories of both the Democratic and Republican candidates in this election. I was impressed by one and saddened by the other! We had a hearty discussion about the tactics of the other candidate, since we are both pulling for the same candidate..the one who has NOT lowered himself to dirty politics. We aren't backing him because of that, but simply because we believe he's the best choice! But I stray from what I had intended to share. After I left the dental office, I called my husband to let him know everything went fine and I was headed back home. In the middle of relaying to him what all had transpired at that appointment that it suddenly hit me like a sledge-hammer!
